Standard Four
Learning Environment
Item A: Classroom Management Website
In my philosophy of classroom management I explained how I believe that all students have the capability to learn and experience success. I said that it is our job as teachers to manipulate the environment of the classroom to support the needs of every student and learning style. I believe that this really starts with a meaningful, clear, and organized management plan. |
During general methods, taught by Professor Griffith, we were able to create a classroom management website and a possible management themed strategy that we would use in a classroom someday. Through this assignment, I was able to show understanding of Standard 4, learning environment which states, " The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.
This management plan is created for a kindergarten or lower elementary classroom and I choose the theme of "Hollywood". This theme encourages creativity and offers opportunities for students to take ownership in the classroom. My website includes a meet the teacher page, my philosophy of management, goals, rules, consequences, procedures, incentives, a yearly calendar and learning links.
I choose to align the majority of my management plan with that of Lee Canter. His views of assertive discipline, positive reinforcement, consequences and clear rules inspired my management style.
Item B: Daydreaming Intervention PowerPoint
| Performance Indicator 4O says that, "The competent teacher uses a variety of effective behavioral management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students that include positive behavior interventions and supports.” In my daydreaming presentation for SPED 330, I discussed interventions for this classroom problem. The behavior of daydreaming is one that often goes unnoticed in the classroom, however through this presentation I was able to teach other student teachers how to effectively manage this problem. I talked about classroom environment, strategies to engage these students' in learning and even school referral procedures. |
