My senior year I got the opportunity to listen to Rick Lavoie speak.  Rick Lavoie's "The Motivation Breakthrough" is about motivating the "forgotten" student that traditional methods don't always reach.  Performance indicator 9P says that, “The competent teacher participates in professional development, professional organizations, and learning communities, and engages in peer coaching and mentoring activities to enhance personal growth and development."  Rick Lavoie's "The Motivation Breakthrough" and the misconceptions he spoke on really helped me evaluate my teaching.  I learned a lot of strategies I could potentially use in my classroom someday.  Motivation is such an important component of teaching and Rick really gives some great tips and suggestions.

Item B: Immigration Teaching Video

www.youtube.com

Standard 9 states, "The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.”  The video shows different aspects of my teaching in an immigration lesson taught during my student teaching experience. Through this project, I was able to reflect on my teaching as well as develop a video that will continue to encourage my reflection and teaching in the future.  The video commentary also reflects on the characteristics of my teaching that benefited my students'.  If I were to teach this lesson I would do things differently and video taping and reflecting on this helped me to realize what things would be beneficial to change in order to improve student learning.
