Philosophy of Education

Since the beginning of my pathway to become a teacher, I have been extremely enthusiastic and excited about the teaching field. I have such a heart for children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and a passion for becoming a great teacher. I think that one attribute to becoming an excellent teacher is passion. If you don’t love what you’re doing & what you’re teaching how can you expect your students to be engaged?

An outstanding teacher must also have high expectations for all their students and hold them to those expectations. Teachers should push their students to ask questions, explore, and actively participate. It’s important to motivate your students to be self-directed learners and encourage them to use higher order thinking skills and become life long learners.

I do believe that teaching students traditional subjects is essential but I also see importance in integrating fine arts and student interests into the curriculum. All students are gifted and excel in different areas, it is so important to allow each student to use their talents. Students will become engaged in learning when they begin to excel in learning. It gives them an encouragement and drive to push forward. Learning will then become fun and interesting in its own way to each individual. It is so important that the teacher is enthusiastic about every subject area.

Excellent teachers make creating a safe and positive learning environment their first priority. The students should know what to expect from you each day, the discipline should be fair and consistent, and all students should be seen as unique and valuable individuals. When you engage each student in a meaningful way throughout the day they start to feel part of a community and they are also encouraged.

Throughout my education, I remember the teachers that thought outside of the box with how they presented content. I believe that creativity and innovation makes teachers stand out. Teachers that work hard to be creative, versatile, and stimulating with their lessons will enable their students to have unique and meaningful experiences in and out of the classroom. Dynamic teachers are open to new ideas and are always evaluating their lessons to make sure they are effective and engaging.

All students should have the right to reach there fullest potential through education. It is so important that all the students in the classroom are treated equally. I look at each child as an individual. I believe that each child should be treasured for its unique characteristics and capabilities. I am aware that no two students are the same so I need to strive to be accommodating to all diverse learners by planning lessons for all the intelligences, creating interventions for students with special needs, and engaging my students in experience based learning.

In education, communication to parents, colleagues, administration, and your students makes you a highly effective teacher. It’s extremely important to develop collaborative relationships with parents & colleagues so as a community you can support your students in the best way possible. In the classroom, good nonverbal, auditory & visual communication can foster active learning, collaboration & great interactions.

An outstanding teacher is also knowledgeable, flexible, empathetic, compassionate, dependable, organized, and patient; among many other things. The role of a teacher is very influential in the life of young people today so having a willingness to learn and constantly grow into a better teacher is essential. A teacher’s job is always evolving and ever-changing. Teacher’s are gaining knowledge and learning from their students every day. As a future educator, I want to commit to be an example and positive role model to each of my students. Each child is important and deserves to learn to the best of their ability. It is my responsibility to teach them to the best of mine!
